Questions, unpacked

Read the distinction before relying on the label.

These answers introduce common policy questions for businesses moving goods. They are not a coverage determination for a particular shipment or loss.

Does insuring the truck also insure the shipment?

No. Auto liability and vehicle physical damage address different interests from the goods being carried. Review the cargo or other property form separately, including whose goods are eligible and the conditions during loading, transit, and storage.

Does inland marine mean ocean freight insurance?

No. Inland marine commonly concerns movable property and domestic transportation exposures. An import or ocean leg needs its own coverage discussion; do not infer that it is insured from the inland marine label.

Can a certificate satisfy every customer requirement?

A certificate provides evidence of insurance; it does not amend a policy. Compare the customer’s requested status and wording with the actual endorsements, including any limits on who qualifies as an additional insured.

What changes should a distributor flag before renewal?

Flag changes when they happen. Different products, new storage locations, higher inventory values, a delivery fleet, and new customer terms may change the account’s exposures. Renewal is a useful checkpoint, but it should not be the only one.

Does a transit policy automatically cover overflow storage?

No. Temporary storage provisions can have conditions, locations, time restrictions, and limits. Describe the overflow arrangement and read the property and transit forms together before assuming the goods remain insured there.

What should I prepare for an introductory discussion?

Have a description of the goods and their movement, current policies, vehicle information, and the agreements that assign insurance responsibility. A short account of an unusual load or delivery arrangement can be more useful than a certificate on its own.

Where should an existing loss be reported?

Follow the notice instructions in the affected policy promptly and preserve relevant shipment and incident records.
